Jann Mardenborough’s Racing Career 

Mardenborough is a professional racing driver who turned his childhood dream into reality.

He wanted to race from a very young age and started playing racing video games at eight years old.

In 2010, he joined Swansea University to study motorsport engineering but left after a short time because the course did not match his expectations. He then took a gap year.

During that time, he entered the GT Academy, a competition by PlayStation and Nissan that turns gamers into real racers. He competed against 90,000 people and won the challenge.

His victory made him the youngest winner, and he earned a professional racing contract with Nissan.

Transition to Professional Racing 

After winning GT Academy, Jann Mardenborough began professional driver training to prepare for real racing. He made his debut at the 2012 Dubai 24 Hours, where he finished third in his class.

Later that same year, he competed in the British GT Championship and secured a win at Brands Hatch along with several podium finishes, which showed strong skill and quick adaptation to real-world motorsport.

In 2013, Jann Mardenborough moved into single-seater racing and competed in the British and European Formula 3 championships. He also proved his strength in endurance racing by finishing third in the LMP2 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on his debut.

In 2014, he raced for Arden International in the GP3 Series and won a race at Hockenheim. He also finished second in the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand, which showed steady progress in his career.

Success in Japanese Motorsport 

Seeking new opportunities, Jann Mardenborough moved to Japan in 2016 to race in Super Formula and Super GT. He performed well, finishing as the runner-up in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship and winning a race in the Super GT GT300 class.

In 2017, he moved up to the GT500 class in Super GT. He finished 14th in Super Formula and 15th in the GT500 standings and continued to build experience in Japanese motorsport.

Return to European Racing 

In 2019, Jann Mardenborough returned to European racing by joining Kondō Racing’s Nissan GT500 team in Super GT. The team finished 14th that season and 19th in 2020.

Nissan did not keep him for 2021, so he worked as a simulator and development driver for Nissan e.dams and McLaren in Formula E.

In 2023, he returned to racing at the Fuji 24 Hours in the Super Taikyu Series. In 2024, he competed in the British GT Championship and achieved a Pro-Am class win along with an overall podium at Silverstone.

As of 2025, he is racing in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup with HRT Ford Performance, driving a Ford Mustang GT3.
